Bulk carrier ocean 1.500-20.000 dead weight tons (dwt) payload capacity. Variable parameters (with default setting) are: distance (100km) and utilisation (1.500 dwt, max. 20.000t). Inputs: heavy fuel oil and cargo. Outputs: cargo and combustion emissions (carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, nitrogen oxides, NMVOC, particulate PM 2.5, sulphur dioxide). Vessel production, end-of-life treatment of the vessel and the fuel supply chain (emissions of exploration, refinery, transportation etc.) are not included in the data set.

Data sources for the transport system are sufficiently consistent, emission factors are based on average European conditions (key emissions are based on measured operating data). LCI modelling is fully consistent.

The data set should be used for LCI/LCA studies where goods have to be transported via seaway over a long distance. The data set allows individual settings of the variable parameters. Default values of the variable parameters have to be checked and adjusted for individual use. The data set does not include the fuel supply route. Therefore the fuel supply data set has to be linked with this data set.
